During the morning walk in Chicago on 10th July, 1975, Srila Prabhupada, the founder-Acarya of International society of Krsna Consciousness and world’s foremost scientific Vedic scholar, presented simplest instructions for fathers and husbands for caring for their daughters and wives respectively in true sense of terms.

Now our policy should be that at our Gurukula [Dallas], we shall create first-class man, and we shall teach the girls two things. One thing is how to become chaste and faithful to their husband, and how to cook nicely. If these two qualifications they have, I’ll take guarantee to get for them good husband. I’ll personally [arrange], yes. These two qualifications required. She must learn how to prepare first-class foodstuff, and she must learn how to become chaste and faithful to the husband. Only these two qualification required. Then her life is successful. So try to do that.

Educate the girls how to become faithful, chaste wife and how to cook nicely. Let them learn varieties of cooking. Is very difficult? Apart from Kåñëa consciousness, these two qualifications, materially they should learn. There are many stories, Nala-Damayanté, then Pärvaté, Sétä—five chaste women in the history. They should read their life.

And by fifteenth, sixteenth year they should be married. And if they are qualified, it will be not difficult to find out a nice husband. Here the boys, they do not want to marry because they are not very much inclined to marry unchaste wife. They know it, that “I shall marry a girl, she is unchaste.” This is psychology. If woman is chaste, even though she is not very beautiful, she will be liked by the husband. So train them in that way: very chaste, faithful wife and knows how to cook very nicely.

Other qualification, even they haven’t, that’s all right. And Kåñëa consciousness is being trained up. Then there will be no difficulty. Ordinary education is sufficient, A-B-C-D. So big, big, sound education, and later on become a prostitute. What is this education? This is all nonsense. [laughter] To make them prostitute, it doesn’t require education. Yesterday we saw in the television how these rascals are wasting time, talking nonsense. Within two weeks, two divorces.

And boys should be first-class man. Then our Gurukula will be successful. What do you think? Am I right?

Therefore, for nice training of girls, Srila Prabhupada told only two things are required apart from training in Krsna Consciousness. Training in good cooking and training in chastity. And training in chastity will come by educating them about lives of chaste ladies from scriptures.

The responsibility of training of girls according to Manu-Samhita 9.3, lies with father in their childhood and further carry forward training by husband in their married life.

Pita rakshyati kaumare bharta rakshyati yauvane |

Rakshyanti sathvire putrah na stri svatantyam arhati ||

Women should be always protected at various stages of her life because they are never entitled to be independent. In childhood they must be protected by their father; in youth-hood, they must be protected by responsible husband and in advanced age or in absence of husband, they must be protected by grown up sons.

Therefore, we are systematically presenting the Vedic concepts about care and protection of feminine. There would be many articles and books published systematically and herein you will find the super-most excellent example of chaste lady – Damayanti from Mahabharata. Reading and discussing her noble character is highly recommended by Srila Prabhupada for the above mentioned purpose.
